River Otter
For some time my wife and I had wanted to live in the southwest, for many reasons, and yet we were finding it very difficult to extract ourselves from Seattle, Washington. My wife had a very good job, we had a wonderful house, a home. We had lived there for about 20 years, we were entrenched and we wanted to move.
We visited a guide in Taos and had a sweat ceremony, asking "Can we move to the southwest?" As part of the ceremony we were told the story of how river otters used to live in northern New Mexico, they had all been killed or run off. There was a plan to re-introduce them by moving some otters that lived in the northwest to New Mexico.
I carved this otter fetish to see if it could help us make the move, like the river otters in the story.
