Ancient Being
This piece came about because of two events that crossed my path. The first was when I needed to take a burning log out of the fire stove that's in the house and douse it with water once it was outside. The second was when my friend asked me to electroform a devils claw for her. One thing lead to another and soon I was electroforming other seed pods in nickel.
With these two events in mind; my wife came across these Chinese water chestnut seed pods and showed then to me. I immediately saw a head in the pod and thought of it belonging to some ancient creature or being.
So, I took a nice piece of Oak, put it into a fire pit, took it out, carve some of it and then placed it back into the fire until I got the shape I wanted. Near the end I used a propane torch to finish up some details. The head is a Chinese water chestnut seed pod that was first plated in copper and then nickel.
